Tuesday Tips 4: Make Hair Look Fuller with Eyeshadow

Did you know that eyeshadow can make your hair look fuller?
Applying a matte eyeshadow to your scalp can instantly give an illusion that your hair is fuller than it truly is. When a camera flash interacts with the scalp's shine, it can show up in pictures as if your hair is thinning.
A really good use of this tip is to apply eyeshadow around your hairline when your hair is in a ponytail. It will make your entire hairline look complete instead of patchy and uneven.

I hope you guys can use this trick! Share with your friends and leave comments! :)

Spring Trends 2014

Hi Fashionistas!

It is finally starting to feel like spring and as you wrap up the semester, start planning your spring wardrobe with these essential must have trends!

These trends were seen walking down the runway this year at New York's fashion week! While those expensive designer pieces are worn by the celebrities, you can get the same trends at a fraction of the cost.

1.) Cropped/ Box Cropped Jackets: One of the hottest trends this season! Cropped jackets are perfect for a night out or a day at work. You can pair them with almost anything: jeans, high waisted maxis, skirts, or trousers.

2.) Overalls: I was missing my Oshkosh days so it's a good thing overalls are back! But this time I am willing to wear them without my mom having to force me. For a casual everyday look, pair them over a baggy shirt and boat shoes. For an edgy night out look, pair classic pleather overalls with heels and statement jewelry.

3.)  Jumpsuits: Honestly, jumpsuits are made for every woman! They come in different shapes, lengths, and patterns. As long as you keep your height and frame in mind you can choose the perfect one for a classy and clean look.
TIP: To make it a day to night outfit, add heels and an embellished clutch. Wear a belt at the waist to show off your figure for a great silhouette.

4.) Wide Leg Trousers: Wear a pair that is high waisted with wedges or heels to make your structure look long and lean.

Rockin' and Floralin'

Hi Fashionistas!

Let's pause to realize that May will be here in less than a week! However, one day the weather is sunny, high 70s and summer dress weather. But the next day, it is back to the sweater weather.

I have packed my winter coats away but I am going to keep my leather jackets in my closet year-round. Leather jackets are perfect for those days you want to achieve that perfect rocker chic look while staying comfortable. When you want to have edginess without looking like a complete hard-ass, incorporate other softer prints and colors such as florals and pastels.

I wore a gray floral sweatshirt/shirt from H&M (around $15) inside my leather jacket (Ross $40). The bag was $13 on sale from Forever 21! Big slouchy shoulder bags have been a trend since the beginning of the fall season and can make outfits look stylish yet effortless. Even without the leather jacket, the bag alone adds some edge with it's gold studs and leather material. For shoe-ware, I went to my go-to comfy combat boots.

Hopefully soon, I will be able to say goodbye to my boots and hello to my sandals. But until then, let's embrace the fact that we have not had to wear our snow boots in a while. What are your go-to shoes?

Tuesday Tips 3: Satin Pillows

Photo from Ebay

Invest in silk pillowcases to help prevent your hair from breaking at night! This tip will help you in the long run. Silk or satin pillows are less likely to absorb the natural oils from your hair and due to their smooth surface, your hair won't pull or break as you toss and turn.

Another great benefit from sleeping on a silk pillowcase is that it will not soak the moisture from your skin. This will help your face be better hydrated and luminous after waking than if you had slept on a cotton pillowcase.

Silk pillows also add an elegant touch to any bedding. And you never know, you may have better dreams! :) Sleep heavy.

Skirts and TOMS!

Hello Fashionistas!

I hope you all are having a great week. I cannot believe it is already halfway through April. That can only mean one thing...finals! And on top of that, this crazy bipolar weather is making me sick, sneezy and cranky. I have not felt like this is a while...I just want it all to stop!

However, one great thing that came out of this sickness is my new found love for Ricola cough drops!  Have you tried them? I may be late on the bandwagon, but today was the first time I tried them and my faith in cough drops was restored! They seem to be the only thing that temporarily soothes my irritated and bloody throat. So, the next time you are sick, skip the Halls and go straight to the Ricola. You will not regret it.

I

Well anyway, let us move on to my next obsession...chambray shirts. I think I have worn a chambray in three posts and I have only been blogging for less than a month! This is an outfit that you could wear almost anywhere and anytime in the spring.

I got this circle skirt for $15 from H&M. Circle skirts among all skirts makes me feel EXTRA lady-like for some reason. On top, I tied a chambray over a black cropped top. Tying the chambray over the top gave it a "spring" feeling. For shoes, I wore red TOMS, this is the most casual you can get. It gave the outfit a nice vibe and made me stand out in the crowd.

You could also wear black flats if you do not want to go the super informal route, but a shoe of color turns heads. I hope you enjoyed! Stay warm and allergy-free!

Tuesday Tips 2: Effulgent Eyes

Hi Beauties!

Thanks for stopping by to read second post of "Tuesday Tips"! Today, I want to address five simple steps that many girls, including myself, are skipping. You may be skipping these steps because they are so simple, but in no means are they impotent.

There are numerous simple tips and tricks to enhance your makeup to it's greatest potential but for today, I am just going to address the alluring feature that people notice the most, the eyes.

1. Fill in your eyebrows
This is something that will make the greatest difference on your face. Eyebrows frame your eyes and your whole face. It can change your look from bland to fierce! You can fill it in with a pencil, a dark eyeshadow powder, or a whole eyebrow kit. I use the ELF eyebrow kit ($3), it is amazing and super affordable.

2. Highlight the brow
To highlight the brow, LIGHTLY stroke a white or light matte eyeshadow, powder, or concealor over the brow bone under the eyebrow. It will create an illusion by reflecting light and causing it to look like you got a natural eyebrow lift.

3. Choose the right concealor
This is crucial! When you conceal the under eye, use a shade with the same undertone as your skin. If the concealor is of a different tone, yet a close color, it will still look like a hot mess. If you are of a darker skin tone, like me, please stay away from peach undertones! It is not for us, it will cause our under eyes to look gray.
Another tip! Incase you were not aware, spf clashes with the camera flashes, so avoid products with large doses of SPF, you do not want to look like actress Taraji Henson in this photo.

4. Kim Kardashian Triangle
You may have noticed that the Kim Kardashian always radiates in her pictures. This is because she highlights under her eye. By simply applying your concealor or highlighter in an upside down triangle under your eye can disguise your sleepless nights and give a youthful look.
Top of the triangle should be at the outer tip of your nose. The other two points should each be on the corners of your eye.

5. Curl your lashes
I am being a hypocrite because this is something that I am guilty of not doing! I am an "out of sight, out of mind," sort of person. My eyelash curler is usually hiding so I keep forgetting to do this, but curling the eyelashes makes a huge difference. Your eyes will look bigger, brighter, and let the application of mascara go on evenly for bold lashes.

I hope this helped you! Please let me know in the comments section. If you are blessed with thick eyebrows, even skin tone, or thick lashes, you obviously will be able to skip some of these steps but, it is beneficial to be aware of them for when you want to "glam up" your look once in a while.

Finger Ring Clutches and Booties

Hi Fashionistas!

I hope you all are having a great weekend! Just as I had hoped, the weather is staying beautiful and I am definitely taking advantage of it. The warmer weather allows us to dress in so many ways where anything can look good. Here I have an outfit that I would wear during the days that I want to look dressed up or if I was going out to a friend's birthday.

The dress is a simple black body-con from Forever 21 ($12). On top, I wore a perfect length gray/green blazer from H&M ($20). It was not too long to overpower the look, but also not short as to where it looked 2001 (remember the shorter blazers?)

However, in this outfit, I let the accessories do all the talking. For jewelry I wore a black watch and gold chained necklace (Forever 21). Footwear for an outfit like this would usually be strapped or platform heels however, booties add a different glam that heels cannot, especially with it's color!
Lastly, I added a finger ring clutch in a gold metallic, snake skinned print. Finger ring clutches are very popular this year, and you can incorporate them into the whole look as you would with jewelry. You can find them almost everywhere, I purchased this one at Ross for $20!

I felt the most comfortable in this outfit than I have in any other dress! I hope you enjoyed! What are your go-to shoes when you want to avoid heels?

Sunshine Surprise!

Hi Fashionistas!

Hopefully you all had a great Wednesday, I know I did! Today's weather was ABSOLUTELY beautiful, sunny and 65 degrees... it almost felt like a dream! I hope the warmer weather is here to stay and that the "showers" from "April showers, bring May flowers," will stay to a minimum. :)

When the sun is shining bright, it inspires me to dress in bright colors. So, for today's outfit, I went to the back of my closet and pulled out these hot pink shorts that I got from the J.Crew outlet ($20) last year and paired it with a chambray shirt from H&M ($18). I wore brown sandals that I purchased from Forever 21 ($12) and an H&M cross-body purse ($18) which I also wore in my "Fun in the Sun" outfit.

How was the weather in your city?

Tuesday Tips: Zappin' Zits!

Hi Beauties!

I am starting a small "series" on The College Catwalk called "Tuesday Tips." I will post different tips each week about beauty, fashion, or lifestyle. I want to help you as much as possible and hopefully these simple tips will make a difference in your day.

So for the first post, let us talk about that nasty zit. We all have had an enormous zit that surprised you when you least expected. Use the liquid from ibuprofen liquid gels to sooth the zit and reduce it's size! Simply pop the pill with a needle and apply the liquid to the site of the blemish.

Though this method will not eliminate the zit, it will reduce it's inflammation. The redness can then be covered up with a little bit of concealor. Remember to never pop a zit!

We The People....

Hello Fashionistas!

Considering the amount of times that I have been to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, I should consider becoming a tour guide. I love history, especially U.S. History! I went again a couple weeks ago and thought I would share my outfit.

One piece that I think is a "must-have" this spring is a camo-green jacket! Unlike many winter jackets, this jacket can be worn in so many ways. You can wear it over a nice floral skirt and basic top. Layer is over a chambray, like I did, or over a long sleeved plaid shirt. Because it is so versatile, the possibilities are endless!

I know, this is a little mean! Whoops!

The camo jacket was $40 from Marshalls, and for a jacket, that is was very "college student" affordable! Under the jacket, I wore a light blue chambray shirt (H&M $18) over a black tank and leggings. Just like the camo jacket, I have worn this chambray shirt so many times with different outfits.

I accessorized with my metallic gray necklace (Forever 21 $7), and combat boots (Steve Madden)  for comfort and because ya' know, "camo" and "combat" are very "war-like", like our American History! Hahaha just joking! My cross body (Steve Madden) was ideal for an outing like this one. The last thing I want to do is drag around a big bulky bag as I try to enjoy the exhibits.

I hope you enjoyed! If you are ever in the Philadelphia area, you should definitely visit this museum which is just a few blocks away from where our nation was born.

Hair VS. Humidity

Hi Beauties!

With the weather getting warmer, your hair will probably get harder to manage. The humidity will ruin any hard work you put into your hair as soon as you step outside. The UV exposure from the sun will break down the protein in your hair causing it to become brittle and lose it's luster. Here are some affordable tips to help you maintain the health and look of your hair!

1.  Moisturizing Sulfate-free Shampoos
People tend to shampoo their hair more as the weather gets warmer because of the sweat your scalp secretes. Shampoos with sulfate strip your hair of its natural oils causing the hair to look dry and brittle. Sulfate-free shampoo is a gentler option. It is a must to hydrate your hair but if moisturizing shampoos are heavy for your hair, make sure you use conditioner on the bottom half after each wash!

2. Heat Protectant
Spring and summer are known for the "all natural" wavy hair look. Though you may not use a heated hair styling tool, it is important you use a heat protectant as it will protect your hair from damaging in the sun.

$4 Walmart

3. Pretty Headbands
Headbands have always been around but they are making a full comeback. Printed headbands are a cheap way to add a dash of pizzazz to your outfit or any plain bathing suit on spring break or vacation. It can make any natural heat less hair-do look good!

$3.80 Forever 21

4. Fedoras
Fedoras are becoming a must have accessory in everyone's wardrobe this year, from people on the streets to the heads of celebrities. Not only do they transform to make any outfit or bathing suit look chic, but can also protect your scalp from sunburn which can later cause dry flakes.

5. Humidity Fighters
Humidity is caused by moisture, before stepping out of your home you should make sure that your hair is 100% dry. Use a leave-in keratin spray to keep the frizz out and burst your hair with a blow dryer to remove any wetness.

I hope you enjoyed these tips! For this spring, take care of your hair and experiment with new hair accessories.
